Circolektra

The Initiative

Switch to safe and circular!

A safe world without waste is what we want to achieve together by 2050. To realise this circular economy, we need to use raw materials more sparingly and more intelligently.

Circolektra is the circular chain initiative of market leaders who are already taking responsibility by collecting old technical electrical installation materials. In this way, we are jointly making an impact on increasing safety, reducing the burden on the environment and promoting inclusive work.

We follow the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and thus contribute to improving the world in a targeted manner. As a chain, we have consciously chosen the following six goals:

  • SDG 8 Decent work and economic growth
  • SDG 10 Reduce inequality
  • SDG 11 Sustainable cities and communities
  • SDG 12 Verantwoorde consumptie en productie
  • SDG 13 Climate action
  • SDG 17 Partnerships for the goals

Returning items pays off!

Isn’t it remarkable that in the Netherlands we throw away old distribution boxes, switchgear, emergency lighting, cabling and other electrical equipment, while elsewhere in the world raw materials are being mined to make new, similar products?

The manufacturers affiliated with Circolektra prove that there is another way. Below are a few examples of how they apply circularity in practice:

  • The plastic from collected group cabinets and switchgear is reused as raw material for the production of new switches and sockets.
  • Pictograms and housing components of emergency lighting are being reused.
  • Used plug-in connections are thoroughly tested and refurbished so that they can be given a second life.

Why you should participate

Waste reduction

By producing less waste, we directly reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills or incinerators. This helps to limit environmental damage and preserve liveable environments.

Material reuse

By reusing materials and recycling raw materials, we conserve natural resources. This promotes a more sustainable approach to the earth and helps prevent the depletion of essential raw materials.

Social employment

Promoting a circular economy creates new jobs, especially for people who need extra support in the labour market. This promotes inclusiveness and contributes to social progress.

Reduction in CO2 emissions

Reducing waste and promoting reuse reduces emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2. This also helps to reduce air and water pollution and contributes to a cleaner environment.

Economic growth

Investing in the circular economy is a strategic way to stimulate sustainable economic growth. By working on innovations and processes within this economy now, we are strengthening our future prosperity and competitive position.

Concrete results

If we collect 200,000 old pumps, this is the result of our contributions:

30,000 group cabinets collected

135,000 kg processed in a circular manner

150,000 kg CO2 reduction

6,000 hours of social work

50% reduction in electrical accidents

60% reduction in causes of fire
